We are the 4th Carlton group. We meet on Fraser square in Carlton, with the Richard Herald playing fields just behind our hall.

Our members take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, visits, community events, good turns, map reading, camp cooking and first aid along with plenty of outdoor activities. Parents tell us their children benefit hugely from the adventures, fun and friendships they experience. Our balanced programmes can help develop social skills and independence, and provide access to some amazing and memorable opportunities.

Members also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. These present a real adventure for them.

We’re a church sponsored group with St Paul’s Carlton (that’s the one near Tesco). We encourage our members to think about what faith means to them but there is no obligation to attend the church or other place of worship

Crisis command

This evening saw the Scouts in an imaginary Police command center reacting to a major road accident. They passed instructions to the ‘brain’ (2 of the leaders) acting as the outside world. For example, if the team want an ambulance they passed a note to the brain asking for the ambulance service to be contacted. The brain then returned a response. Usually asking them to be more specific like where do you want the ambulance to go. At the end they had to produce a report on what happened, the actions they took and who if anybody committed an offense.

Patrol Leaders run the roost

We let our Patrol Leaders loose with a night of their own. They decided to do blindfolded food tasting to see if the other scouts could tell what the foods were and introduce them to things they might not have tried before like Sardines, Avocado and Olives

We had a few, less than enthusiastic responses to the olives but for the most part they all had a great time and enjoyed the foods they tried

Scouts get tasks

Last week at Scouts saw the ever popular appearance of Taskmaster. An even of challenges, taken or adapted from the TV show, providing much amusement, lateral thinking, listening skills and teamwork. Tasked with having to put something on their heads without moving their hands from behind their back the scouts came up with some creative ways to achieve it.
